Kiper spends more time on California kids than any other state.

Ever wonder which state puts the most players in the NFL? Texas or Florida? No. California had 251 players on NFL rosters at the end of the 2010 season according to an ESPN the Magazine report. Texas followed California with 211 players and then Florida with 184 players on NFL rosters at the end of the 2010 season. Only one other state had at least 100 players, Ohio.

On the flip side, which state had the fewest players on NFL rosters? West Virginia produced a whole four players on NFL rosters. Makes me think a little more of the job Rich Rodriguez and Bill Stewart have done at West Virginia. Same can be said about Dan Hawkins and Chris Petersen at Boise State. Idaho has five players on NFL rosters. The recruiting challenge in those states is more grand than we even imagined.

After the states mentioned in the first paragraph, here are how many NFL players states ranked 6-21 produced.

6. Louisiana-91
7. Georgia-88
8. New Jersey-65
9. Pennsylvania-65
10. Ney York-64
11. Michigan-60
12. Illinois-55
T13. Virginia, South Carolina-54
15. North Carolina-53
16. Alabama-52
17. Tennessee-44
18. Mississippi-38
19. Oklahoma-33
20. Maryland-29
21. Indiana-26

Yea, I guess when one can’t win using one set of numbers you do that fuzzy math thing and find a way to make the numbers go in your favor. I debated this with my California buddy before. He said the funny thing is that Calif fans don’t even know they are number one in putting NFL players in the league. They don’t bleed football in Cali, in fact baseball is still number one out there. The fact is, they still send the most and geez, if they ever did diceide to make football a priority, they would domenate there as well. The weather and everything is condusive to putting out good athletes in any sport. Cali also had the most Major league players for baseball. They have put the most in Basketball. In womens sports Cali is the hot spot. Every major Volleyball program recruits in Cali. We can mix and match numbers anyway we want too. But the simple fact remains, California dominates in numbers as a state, and as a right of way to professional sports.
