Men, the time of year we all wait for is rapidly approaching.  I have aptly dubbed the Thursday night before the first Saturday of college football, Merry Football Christmas, MFC.  This year, MFC, falls on Thursday, September 2nd.  You know the drill, ESPN will have a doubleheader, Versus has a game, and the Big Ten Network does too.  Who is playing you ask.  Who cares?  It is college football, and it is live!  It is not on ESPN Classic.  It is not in your old VHS or DVD collection.  It is real, live college football!

Merry Football Christmas brings to us the gift of live college football. Men, it is our job to make sure we bring a gift to others in our life to celebrate MFC.  This is a terrific opportunity to spoil your significant other before the season gets going, and you spend every Saturday going to or watching college football.

Let me give you a few ideas. Perhaps it is a nice night out on the town for the two of you.  If you have kids, get a babysitter.  Or, send her out with her girlfriends for a night and you watch the kids.  When her girlfriends ask what’s going on, you will look like a thoughtful husband thinking of your wife before the season starts.  Last year I gave my wife a green coat that she could wear to football games, or for any other occasion, while I was working at Baylor.  You could get her a facial or massage.  I posted this article before MFC arrives to give you time to get a gift and be ready to celebrate.

As for kids, it is a great reason to give them a gift to get them excited about the start of college football season.  Can you imagine getting your kids in on the hype and excitement of the season approaching every year?  Each July they are going to start thinking about what they are going to get for MFC!  Maybe it is a t-shirt of jersey from y’alls favorite team.  You could get a cake from your favorite bakery with MFC on it.  You know your kids best, and the gift does not have to be expensive. I’m getting my little one some football balloons this year because she loves balloons.

Sometimes men fail to realize how much time and energy we invest in college football.  Celebrating MFC does not allow you to ignore your family during the season.  It is designed for you to be thoughtful before the season starts.  Please enjoy this little tradition.  I look forward to getting some comments, emails, and pictures about your MFC celebration.
